BESM 5e Solo, Part 2.5 - Supplemental Material, Supporting Cast - Ardet Kleid

When I first created Harold oh so many years ago, for my first Morrowing and then Oblivion test runs (oh so many years ago), he was even more of edgelord in my head. So I needed a character that would counterbalance him. The pet raven, even if he was a thing, only put more oil in pan, what I really needed was a character who was a clown and not so moody, leading to creation of redhaired pul'he.

Introducing, Ardet Kleid.

--- The Book of Fates: Censor's Entry 200632 ---
"The only heir to the Kleid family after the demise of his parents. Warded by his uncle Pascal Kleid. And the worst candidate to ever hold this position, if I may say so, bluntly. Brash, full of himself and a hopeless womanizer. But he seemed to better himself after experiencing two major events in his life. Meeting Harold who was both enemy and a blood brother from the very first day of their encounter. And experiencing his own death by the hands of a linch mob. After he spent three days in coma the experience didn't make him change his ways but now it was more of an attempt to 'blow of some steam'. I should note that after waking up from his big sleep, the amount of spritual energy in places of his visits had drasticaly increased. The same thing can be said about the Celestial Bureaucracy, agents of which are tend to be more active with the heir of Kleid lineage in the area. I have all the reason to think that after experiencing clinical death Ardet had found the abilities akin to Spiritdancers.
Further observation of the subject must be proceed with caution, taking notice of the close connection to one of the most powerful lineages among Re'sha tribe and the trade connections to Rednav family"

Ardet is a strange character, far from anything balanced. He is a rascal, so Rogue is the class for him. But he comes from the Re'sha tribe, and their kind lives on floating islands, so he's accustomed to heights and climbing... lots and lots of climbing. So his Strength was 12. Since Kleid's favorite sport is "skirt-hunting" he need to be agile enough to climb the balconies, run from the angry husbans and dodge the shotgun weddings, thus his dexterity stays at 14 for now. Harold is a heavy smoker, and a drinker (it's a small wonder how he can be so active during his "night raids"), so Constitution is 10. He had a good eduction and being Harold's blood brother, he had the same teachers most of the time. Intelligence is 12. And though he is not an idiot he's to overconfident and easily distracted, especially if the distraction has a pretty face and sporting pair of B's or bigger. His Wisdom is 9 for now. And finaly, Ardet know what the women want and he can be irresistible despite the hideous scar that he has a momento about the linching, on his neck. His Charisma is 14 and Comeliness is 13.

Now Re'Sha Tribe is something I brewed specifically for both this character and setting taking inspiration from what I've read about races of Zendikar and Eberron, specifically the Kor race and Dragonmarked clans overall.

As Re'sha tribesman, Ardet gets following traits:
Abilities improvement. +2 Dexterity (Dexterity 16 (+3) and +1 Wisdom (Wisdon 10 (+0)

Daredevil. Advantage on rolls against fear

Lucky. Reroll "1" on ability rolls, skill checks and saving throws

Cliffhanger. Additional d4 die on Athletic and Acrobatic skill rolls

As a Rogue, Ardet gets all the the standard bennefits like Sneak Attack and Expertise (which I put in Athletics and Persuasion. For that special swashbuckling feel which fits Ardet pretty well)

His Hit Die is an ordinary d8, which gives him 4 points of Health and 4 points of Stamina.
He also gets proficiency in Light armor, Simple weapon, hand crossbow, short sword and long sword. The standard rules state that rogue is also proficient with rapier but I decided to change that to the tool that is important for any climber. I'm talking about ice pickaxe of course which is basically a warpick (an improvised though, but, hey!)

As for the skills I pick proficiency in Acrobatics, Bluff, Survival and Athletics.

As a Background I decided to take the "Heir" background from "Sword Coast Adventures" which  gives the character History and Persuasion skill profiency.

As for equipment I decide to give him not-so-traditional weapons for rogue, such as a handaxe (another choice for a mountain climbers and survivalists), iceaxe (warpick) and a set of darts, fluffed to resemble throwing knives. The armor that I choose for him is an armor of studded leather (12+Dexterity Bonus), that he wears as a vest.

P.S. You can read about Zendikar which I referred to and Kor race specifically here:

Preparations and Creation

So, finally it came to character creation. And for the first solo playthrough I chose a character that I had for a considerable amount of time. A mascot that I used for many test videogame runs and testing character creations in tabletop rpgs. Most of the time I try create and play as an unarmed ranger. Finally it's his time to shine as a character for his own adventure.

Introducing Harold T. Trend. What follows is a bit of world building thrown into the creation process. Such things actually helps me with all the process.

--- The Book of Fates: Censor's Entry 200502 ---
" Harold's story is a story of an urchin. A street rat with no parents, nor home. And he was unlucky enough one day to pickpocket someone he shouldn't. His mark was young scholar Airus Trend of Edasi Tribe alongside his back-then girlfriend Esther of Ik'hadi tribe who took the urchin under their wing. Maybe out of pity or maybe they've found something in this kid to their liking.
Edasi are know as scholars and planeswalkers (among other things) and Airus is not an exception. He and his soon-to-be wife taught the child everyithing they knew and all that could help the boy in the future. And the help he needed indeed, for Harold is one of those few who has blood of the Nor'yen Tribe in his veins, a tribe of Beastmasters who rulled supreme in their Homeworld over Beasts, Beastmen and Men alike.
Millenia have passed but Nor'yens are still shun especially by the former slaves, the beastfolk.
Harold is known to travel across the World believed to be searching for any traces of his native tribe or to be dragged around by numerous cohorts, especially Ardet Kleid of Re'sha Tribe, a spirit dancer and the heir to Kleid dynasty.
The person of interest is well trained and notorios enough to have a bounty on his head in several Worlds. Not to be apprehanded because of the fact being protected by Trends the Godslayers and Ik'hadi heiress to the position of Chieftess. Additional surveillance is needed. "

Specifically for this build and all related to the character and setting I use the point-buy option, provided in Players Handbook with addition of using 30 points instead of 27, described in Dungeon Masters' Guidebook which is suggested to use exactly with 7 stats.

So, the actual buy was looking like this: 13 (5), 13 (5), 13 (5), 12 (4), 12 (4), 12 (4) 11 (3) = 5 + 5 + 5 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 3 = 30.

Harold is both troublemaker and troublshooter, so he needed to hit hard and avoid being hit. And again, he is a pacifist of sort, he tries not to kill unles he can't help it. And thus, his Strength and Dexterity are 13 (+1), he is not tough but can take a few punches, so his Constitution is 12 (+1). Inteligence is 12 (+1) he is not booksmart but he had a best education that anyone in his place could dream of. Furthermore, Harold is stubborn and due to his upbringing and the people he tag alone with he needs a lot of common sense. Especially if he needs to survive another crazy plan of Ardet Kleid and as such his Wisdom is 13 (+1) Charisma is not his forte, plus he can come out as a bit of an "edgelord" (The benefit of playing solo is I can go as crazy and cringy as I want). But he is nice to the eyes even if he has a freekisly big scar across his cheek, though some would argue that this is part of his charm. Charisma 11 (+0), Comeliness 12 (+1)

Furtermore I needed to establish his race in terms of D&D and the modifiers that goes with it. Way back in the days I was really hooked at the idea of Dragonmarked houses in Eberron setting for 3.5 ruleset. Back then I had this idea: "What if it's not the house or clan or family that has a specific king of power gifted by the Dragon God but the whole society" Thus the idea of Tribes was born.

A book in question. It has everything and it's really awesome!

Harold belonged to the Nor'yen tribe a tribe of beastmasters (also known as Beasttongues) inspired by House Vadalis and their Dragonmark of Handling from Eberron setting and for a long time I had problems with depicting the power list of house in 5e/next ruleset. I was thinking using feats that grant spells for limited uses, but then the ruleset of playing Eberron in 5e came out. I am talking about Wayfinder Guide to Eberron (Eberron" Last War came out later, when the character was finished and I was far in adventure) that had rules on playing Vadalis Chapter House all I had to do is just refluff te stuff.

I won't bore you with the fluff stuff (that will a discussion for another post) I'll just write the important bits.

Improved Attributes. + 1 Dexterity (Dexterity: 14(+2), +1 Wisdom (Wisdom 14(+2), + 1 Player’s Choice. I chose to put this extra 1 into Strength pumping it up to 14 (+2)

Beast scense. The Beasttongue gift allows Nor’en to add d4 to Animal Handling (Wisdom) and Nature (Inteligence) rolls

Taming Hand. Nor’en can perform “aid action” giving an advantage to an alliened beast or beastfolk companion within 30 feet instead of 5, according to rules of the initial game.

Beastmaster. All spells that affect beasts and animals also affect monsters with Intelligence equal or less than 3. The eyes of Nor’en when this ability active change the color to a vibrant green.

So now we approached the Class. There's no dillema hear. I chose the standard Ranger, that gives me proficiency with all simple and martial weapons, proficiency in wearing light and medium armor, d10+1 hit die, which was divided between Health 5 and Stamina 6, Natural Explorer ability that I decided to give him a proficiency over Coastlines and Favorit Enemy ability that gives him advantage in tracking and information gathering over Humans and Gnolls. And finally the proficiency in such skills as Perception, Survival and Animal Handling

As for a background I wanted to show his status as a student that comes from the very bottom. To do this, I decided to use the homebrew content and picked the background: Street Scholar that gives the character proficiency with Caligraphers tools, and mastery over Sleight of Hand and Arcana skills.

Remembering that the character is "an edgelord but pacifist" I didn't give him any weapon and spend all the money on differents tools and instruments and bought a Studded Leather Armor (12+Dexterity Bonus), then to show character's "edginess", the armor was fluffed into a Duster Coat.

With all the preparations done and out of the way, we can start the adventure.
